About!

...this site!

This site, is about computing, but not in the form that is happening today, with all the bells and whistles. Today websites, have too much "garbage", in the form of images, animations, effects etc and also a lot of garbage content. So, this site is trying to do the opposite. Simple pages and look, with not heavy HTML and platform. Also the content, will try first to be helpful to others and after, opinion wise... but for sure less or not at all social criticism and drama... :p

The content of the site, is about computing... making computers help the user and be user friendly, in a simple way. For the past 20 years i use Linux and is my preferred OS, but as i am forced to use Windows systems also, you will find articles about Windows also. Expect many articles about retro computers, retro gaming/emulation, Raspberry Pies and other SBCs, handheld devices, cyberdecks and HAM radio!

Any software used for this site and also mentioned in the articles IS and will be, open source and free! I really like the idea of Open Source Software and the day i switched to Linux, was also the day, that stopped using warez.

...the platform!

This site uses Grav. I found it recently and immediately, i loved it! Simple enough, but still powerful. No SQL databases, no fucking "block editor", that another platform uses and everything is written in MarkDown! You just, don't need anything more.

...the theme!

The theme is simple enough, dark as i prefer it and also responsive for easy reading in smart devices. It resembles the Ubuntu theme, which i really like and is the OS i prefer, the last years. Also the logo is taken from BSD Unix and is made as ANSI art ;)

...why CP737?

Do you know what CP737 is? Well, it's the code number for an old DOS codepage, specifically for the Greek language/region. It is the codepage that has Greek characters and allowed Greek people, to write in their native language in DOS. Doesn't seem very important today, but then it was something big, cause, we, Greek guys, were forced to write in Greeklish at every corner of the Net... the IRC, the Web, Usenet etc.

So... if you haven't figured it out yet, i am from Greece and because i grew in the 80-90s, when computer technology was created, i guess CP737 would be an appropriate name for this site :) Hope, now that you know what it represents, you like it too...
